The healing touch of the plasma needle

Plasmas are commonly used to treat surfaces. In this research we want to study the impact of a plasma on living tissues. A student project has reviewed existing biomedical plasma applications and their impact of plasmas on tissues (dutch report 4.5 MB in pdf format). Presently we are doing fundamental studies on plasma cell interactions. The final aim is to develop novel methods to cure various deseases. A full description of the project outline is available. The first results were presented as a poster at the WELTPP conference in Rolduc November 2001.
There are two PhD-students working on this project. Ingrid Kieft (I.E.Kieft@tue.nl) is studying the effects of the plasma needle on cells and tissue. Raymond Sladek (R.E.J.Sladek@tue.nl) is working on the application of the plasma needle on teeth for caries treatment. There are "stage" and "afstudeer" projects available on this project.
